HP-UX is a big subject. Are you looking for system administration,
or software development, or what? Where did you look when you found
nothing?

I tried visiting hpe.com, which led directly to a page saying:
       File not found."

A Web search for "hp-ux documentation" led to a wide variety of
useless document lists/links. I can now understand how a beginner could
find no useful info at hpe.com.

...docs.hp.com...

When Carly bought Compaq some 15 years ago, it was decided to scrap the entire docs.hp.com infrstructure and start over. This has been a documentation nightmare for customers..100% of the bookmarks, the manuals themselves and hundreds of online documents were rendered useless.

Luckily, Mr. Google has been extremely useful in digging out the new lcations for the manuals.
I used the search words:

     hp-ux guide

and found dozens of useful links. Download manuals only from hpe.com locations and to get started, the System Administration manuals will be the most useful. Here is a collection of HP-UX manuals:

     http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=5103987

However, it is important to note that these manuals assume that you have some basic training or an advisor to help getting started. If you have some experience with other Unix flavors such as Solaris or Linux, the manuals will be useful. Be aware that while there are a lot of similarities within Unix flavors, always consult the man pages before using a command and options. But without any Unix training it would be like learning a language by reading a dictionary.

> Here is a collection of HP-UX manuals:

I, too, found that page. I saw nothing very useful there. For
example, "User guide (13)" leads to a bunch of PDF files, mostly
covering one or another minor feature. I guess that there are a couple
of things like "HP-UX System Administrator's Guide: Overview [...]"
which have some actual value, but they're sure not prominent.

> [...] documentation nightmare [...]

   I'd say.
