Hi there.
Is the SCSI termination correct ?
Are the drives connected to the correct type of interface ( LVD vs HVD etc. )?
Are the cables connected the right way ? (!!)
Switches put to ON ?
Circuit breakers ok ?

Hope, this little plan helps to ifnd out.
Rgds
Alexander M.
Did you have a look at the special files?
First you have to make these special files, for example:
mksf -d tape1 -H 8.6.1 -b 1600 -a rmt/c2t6d0m
If you already have special files like these, what is the output of:
lssf rmt/c2t6d0m
(assuming the correct spec.file.

If it does not help you, try to remove the special files (rmsf) and remake them: mksf.

Secondly, it might be that everything is already there, but that you have to remake your kernel. If your kernel does not see anything like this, it might not work either.

Success,
Ceesjan

Hi
Start SAM and then select "Kernel configuration" and then "Drivers". Check that the stape driver is loaded. If not add this driver and rebuild the kernel.

Guys thx for all the replies.. sadly it looks far more omninous now & the machine is reporting H/W errors.

I think the problem with the DLT's maybe that the SCSI settings on the cards maybe in-correct, but the box is so sick I can't get to these at the moment.

Cheers

Sean

Sean,
I assume you connected the DLT8000 to a A4800A HBA, right? Usually this interface has no internal terminator connected to the card because the standard SCSI cable for the V-Class are inline terminating.
My first guess is the missing termination.
DLT 8000 must be unique in a SCSI channel.

It can not share channel with more disks or tapes.

Unplug DLTs, maybe the source of hardware problems.
