topic vxvm disk capacity in Operating System - HP-UX

I have a LUN on a Clariion that is about 5TB in size. I tried to configure a vg using vxvm but it shows the disk (LUN) as being 2TB in size. I am using HP-UX 11.23 vxvm 3.5 with disk layout version 5. This space is to be used solely as backup repository. How do I get the correct disk size? Or is 2TB the largest single disk usable in HPUX?

Thanks,

George
Hi George:

You should be able to exceed 2TB if you are using VxVM (not LVM) and you have Online JFS. See Table-2 of:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5971-2383/5971-2383.pdf

Regards!

...JRF...

VxVM does not come into play here. It is the OS.

There is still a 2TB limit to the maximum size of a disk (aka LUN) on 11.23. For you to be able to get a 5TB volume carve up on 3 LUNs (filesystem?) - you will have to carve and present 3 LUNs from your Clarion - 2x2TB and 1 x 1TB. Then use VxVM to create a concatenated volume of those 3 LUNs to create a 5TB volume that you may use as a raw device or create a filesystem on top.

Note: If a filesystem is desired to be created on top - then you will need to use OJFS (aka VxFS) 3.5 and upwards -- better if you use version 4.1.

Hope this helps..
