Hi pasquale patti,

I think you are connected to EMC CLARiiON. If yes, check the EMC HP Host conenctivity guide and check the basic setting like Array type, auto trespassinhg etc..

Also you need to check the pvtimeout setting for the devices.

Regards
Sathish

hi all

had a problem with alot of these type of messages:

LVM: Performed a switch for Lun ID = 0 (pv = 0x000000004c384000), from raw devic
e 0x1f014200 (with priority: 1, and current flags: 0x80) to raw device 0x1f07420
0 (with priority: 0, and current flags: 0x80).
LVM: Performed a switch for Lun ID = 0 (pv = 0x000000004c392000), from raw devic
e 0x1f065000 (with priority: 1, and current flags: 0x0) to raw device 0x1f085000
(with priority: 0, and current flags: 0x80).
LVM: Performed a switch for Lun ID = 0 (pv = 0x000000004c38c000), from raw devic
e 0x1f065100 (with priority: 1, and current flags: 0x0) to raw device 0x1f085100
(with priority: 0, and current flags: 0x80).
LVM: VG 64 0x040000: PVLink 31 0x063000 Recovered.
LVM: VG 64 0x040000: PVLink 31 0x083000 Recovered.

hp and emc came in and (predictably) both
blamed the other. the problem mysteriously
came and went on its own. anybody ever had
a similar issue?

thx in advance
Plan A. Replace the EMC Array with an HP so that the finger pointing will stop. You could actually have 3-way finger pointing if a switch is involved. I assume that the Fibre cables were checked.

Plan B. Look for and apply all LVM, SCSI, disk, and Fibre patches that apply to your OS version --- which you didn't bother to mention.

Plan C. Check the timeouts on all the LUN's using pvdisplay. I suspect that you have some that are at the default 30 seconds. Generally, array LUN's should be set to something in the ~120s range using pvchange.

EMC/HP have always said change the PV timeout in LVM for all EMC LUNs to 90 seconds:

pvchange -t 90 /dev/dsk/cXtYdZ

IIRC you have to run this after every reboot...

HTH

Duncan
