This varies from one hardware to another, but IIRC the N4000 (aka rp7400) will stay powered on, unless you power it off using the GSP command or the chassis switch.

Hi,

shutdown -h normally takes the system to a "halt state" in the sense O.S is shutdown. And the servers I have worked on, requires the server to be powered off using pc after the O.S is halted. Typically in the CLASSIC sense of the word, there is a difference between "halt state" and "power off" and executing a shutdown -h typically "halts" the operating system and not the server power.

That's why there is a difference while booting the system from MP when your system is halted and when it is powered off.

An rp3410 works on this principle.

> Torsten

"Hardware dependent".. that I was not aware of!.. As there is a difference between "halt state" and "power off state" in the technical sense of the word.

Regards
Ismail Azad

From the rx3600 user guide:

To shut down HP-UX and halt (power off) the system, issue the shutdown -h command.
To reboot a halted system, you must power on the system using the PC command at the iLO 2
MP Command menu
