installing DMP on MC server guard with LVM (HPUX11.23) servers

Hi,

We have 2 1a64 server (rx8640) in production environment also it is using MC service Guard for SAN side clustered netapp pairs (two fabric is connected to each HBA and each fabric will have two netapp two HBA is installed on the servers)
due some multipath issue we requested Netapp to provide multipath software as per that they provided DMP . If it will work with HPUX11.23 with LVM also we have online jfs installed

Also if I install DMP it will hamper any existing setup ?

If your qusetion is whether DMP will work with hpux 11.23 then the ans is yes.
since we do have a customer using DMP for multipath on hpux11.23. they use VVR for replication.
but no secure from hp should be in your server if you are using DMP.

Hi,

DMP stands for dynamic multipathing, and is the multipathing solution of VxVM, veritas volumemanager, and thus has nothing to do with LVM, hp-ux default logical volumemanager.

"netapp provided dmp"
Its symantec/veritas, who developes for a specific storage, the free dmp library, based on information that comes from the hardware vendor of the storage, in this case netapp.

Anyway, unless you were allready paying for the full vxvm version of vxvm, which is a necessity for being able to use dmp, netapp provided you with nothing, that wasnt free downloadable from the symantec website.

To check if the full vxvm version is installed, issue the command

# vxdctl license

If this gives a output comparable with the following,

All features are available:
Mirroring
Root Mirroring
Concatenation
Disk-spanning
Striping
RAID-5
VxSmartSync
Clustering-lite
DMP (multipath enabled)

,full vxvm is installed. If it includes all of the above lines and more, all the better, if it gives less lines then the above, especially the line DMP(multipath enabled), isnt there, then you dont have the full vxvm version, and the "dmp library given", will do you no good.

We are not using veritas only it will use for onlie jfs purpose, also now ew are searching a multipath tool wihich is compatable for netapp LUNs with native HPUX lvm and service guard
please provide and update it will help me alot
