in /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf you must enter the hostname of every machine that connects to Veritas Netbackup, in the form:

SERVER = hostname

Believe it or not, this includes client PCs.

If you are sure the server daemons are running:
bprd, bpdbm, bpjobd
check netstat -a for LISTEN on tcp ports 13720, 13721, 13722, 13723

I think 13722 is the java server listener port.

Finally check for any firewall blockage.
Shawn,

Could this be some kind of networking problem (ipaddress/routing/hostname etc)?
files to check:
/etc/hosts
/etc/rc.config.d/netconf
/etc/nsswitch.conf
/etc/resolv.conf

Could you check the state of your installed software patches?
# swlist -l fileset -a state

Any other tools giving you errors (sam, sw commands)?
try using sam and fire up an swinstall window.

Are there any errors in the syslog.log file?

How about your veritas patches (are you uptodate)?

Post your HPUX version and your Veritas Volume Manager version.

What has been changed?

Robert-Jan

The stuff mentioned all looks good. It is hard to say when the problem started because I typically do not use the gui. The mention of patches is interesting since the two servers I am having problems with were recently patched. A couple hundred patches were added.
