Hi,

in highend, mixed, 7/24 environments you will find mainly backupsolutions from Veritas or Legato. Yes, Legato's Networker is running on HP-UX 10.20 and up.

There is also a very active mailinglist regarding networker.

Check http://listmail.temple.edu . If you can't see the networker mailinglist you have to search for the list NETWORKER.

Hope this helps

Regards Stefan

I think you mean Legato. Anyway, most new oracle installs also include a version of networker, thus, I am sure that it is widely used in the environment, although I have never used it myself.

GL,
C

Jim,

Just a caution - I used Legato in the past but finally gave it up for lack of support. It's a good product when it works but when it breaks you might as well be on your own - their support was terrible. I now use OBII.

Pete

I use Legato. Had a few problems, but all works fine. The only issue I have is with disaster recovery across sites. We can clone a tape on our primary site, then when we take it to the DR site we have to scan the whole tape before we can start the restore. This takes hours. If we don't do this the StorageTek 9730 Timberwolf jukebox spits it out as unknown media. Not in the database.

To get round this is I open the jukebox door and manually load the tape into the DLT drive. That way Legato doesn't know anything about it and doesn't spit it out again. I have written a script that reads the tape using the scanner command. The restore is damn quick. About 2 hours for 21GB.

HTH

Dave.

I forgot to say use 100BT network. 10BT is not supported and slows the backup doen to a few k / second.

I can recommend good support.

Regards,

Dave.

We use Legato Networker 6.x to backup everything (Oracle on HPUX on EMC, Linux, and some other stuff). Legato, EMC, and Oracle are strategic partners so Networker also has three intergration modules for Oracle RMAN and EMC SRDF/TimeFinder. Very exciting!
