Yes, I think you can do it. Why you can not see it from swremove list because the patch status is not correct, generally, you can see them through swlist. Try to swlist first, then remove related scripts from /var/adm/sw/products, after that, run swlist or check_patches to see whether you can find any complain. Good luck.
I want to remove ns-fasttrack and its components from 11/32 k420 but running swremove does not list the sw. Will removing it directly from /var/adm/sw/products and remove ns-httpd scripts be adequate?

I would find out why swremove is not showing the software first. Mybe someone aready removed something in the form you stated and is why it is broke in the first place.

I wouldn't remove it that way.
Hi Frankie,

Does swlist show it?

If not it may not have been installed via SD-UX utils.
If it wasn't installed via SD-UX, then you should be able to safely remove it manually.

The other possibility is that someone has..ahem...been "cleaning" out the /var/adm/sw dir - probably to free up space.
In that case there will have to be some recovery (backups?) to be done before you can remove via swremove.

Rgds,
Jeff

No it's not listed when I run swlist. Same for NscapeNavGold that I'd to remove as well. The former sis adm had a very conservative approach and a sloppy admin style. I suspect he did not use SD_UX. Anyhow, this server is in the dmz, and I really don't want to mess up operations, so it looks like I can simply run rm -R on those directories and remove the startup scripts.

Hi Frankie:

I would first check the software with swlist:

# swlist
# swlist -lfileset | grep nsXXXXX

If it lists there, then it was installed with SD-UX. If yes, then you can remove this with swremove. If not, then the software was not installed with swinstall utility.

Normally the netscape softwares comes with an install script, which install and configure the software on the system. The uninstallation of these softwares can be done by removing the software HOME directories, start/shutdown scripts and it's configuration files. The best way will be to check the netscape site and look for uninstall methods.

HTH,
Shiju
