The problem I have is to change the minor number of the group file for a VG.

Can I export the VG with a map file with a 0x020000 minor number, then re-create the VG & group file with a different minor number 0x0b0000??? or does will the vgimport require the same old minor number 0x020000???

thanks for your assistance.

Short answer: You can :)

Slightly longer answer: Yes, during vgimport / vgcreate You're giving /dev/vgNN as argument, and whatever groupfile resides there will make the decision on the minor number for that vg.

Disclaimer: I'm on holiday and haven't spent a second thinking about HP-UX for two weeks now.

Hi Alan:

You can do exactly as you indicate. Remember, however, that the minor number must be unique and it is expressed in hexadecimal (obviously). You will not be able to use (at 'vgimport' time) a minor number that exceeds your kernel's 'maxvgs' value (whose default is 10 decimal). If you tune this value higher you will consume about 4-8 KB of lockable memory for each increment, so choose wisely.

Regards!

...JRF...
