Hi all !!!!

I'm facing a problem with a disk, with a defective block. The issue is that it is a datafile and I can't copy it into another location due to I/O read errors .... Is there a way to force the copy? Will it be safe to do a fsck?

Thankx

Hi Sergio,

Difficult question, If you have a good backup I would replace the drive and restore the data. You could try a fsck, but there are changes you will loose the diffective block.

Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

Hi Sergie,

I am assuming that you were prompted the error in the transfer process. Sad to say if the data lies on a physically bad block, it will be quite impossible to recover it using fsck - FSCK cant fix physical faults.. I am not aware of any other methods that can do the trick either.

do a "dd if=/dev/rdsk/<PV> of=/dev/null bs=1024k" if an I/O error is returned... u should change the disk before more damage is done.

This is all I know...</PV>

Hi,

There is no option for force copy here. You have to change disk and restor data from latest good backup

Sunil
