I need to increase a lv by 10 G and the LV is belong to Vg02 and this vg has around 21G free .but i fail to increase .error message is
"lvextend: Not enough free physical extents available. "
and the my LV is striped LV.so the number of disks selected must match the number of stripes ,in this case 4(i have 4 disk ) but i just wonder why there has 2 disks free space is 0 while the other 2 still has free space .this is striped LV ,the usage should be same right ?while 2 disk still has free space the other 2 no more space .
thanks !

--- Volume groups ---
VG Name /dev/vg02
VG Write Access read/write
VG Status available
Max LV 255
Cur LV 8
Open LV 8
Max PV 16
Cur PV 4
Act PV 4
Max PE per PV 3199
VGDA 8
PE Size (Mbytes) 8
Total PE 12796
Alloc PE 10060
Free PE 2736
Total PVG 0
Total Spare PVs 0
Total Spare PVs in use 0

--- Physical volumes ---
PV Name /dev/dsk/c16t0d4
PV Status available
Total PE 3199
Free PE 0
Autoswitch On

PV Name /dev/dsk/c16t0d5
PV Status available
Total PE 3199
Free PE 0
Autoswitch On

PV Name /dev/dsk/c16t0d6
PV Status available
Total PE 3199
Free PE 644
Autoswitch On

PV Name /dev/dsk/c16t0d7
PV Status available
Total PE 3199
Free PE 2092
Autoswitch On

Are all the lv's striped ?. Surely No !.

If you are looking for a way around you can use lvchange and change the striping

Or use pvmove and move some pv's of other lv's here & there and make room for extending your filesystem

Kaps

Well, because of the striping, that is why you can't lvextend. You obvioulsy need the free space on all the disks.

How it got to this state is possibly because the logical volume has been extended in the past without the correct parameters distribution policy etc.(I would be interested to see the output of lvdisplay for this logical volume) or you have another logical volume in the volume group.

Hello,

it seems that your LV as a strict PVG allocation or a strict contiguous allocation. You can change it using lvchange :

lvchange -s n /dev/vg02/lvname
lvchange -C n /dev/vg02/lvname

Be careful to be sure that your lv is not mirrored (the lvdisplay must show mirror copies equal to zero).

the lvextend can now be performed.

Johan

Hi

As per vgdisplay you have got 8 LVs. Other LVs might have been created without stripe option. And they will be using the space on /dev/dsk/c16t0d4 and /dev/dsk/c16t0d5.
Is there any swap space configured in vg02?
Do a "pvdisplay -v on /dev/dsk/c16t0d4 and c16t0d5.

cheers
Shyjith
