logical volumes on the EMC and the XP arrays should have bad block relocation turned off (-r N) because the hardware itself can perform this action.

Leaving it on can cause erroneous messages to appear in syslog.

Bad Block Reallocation should be turned off, VA array manages the detection and reallocation of bad blocks internally without any intervention from LVM.
Everyone I've ever spoken to at HP has told me the same thing T. M. Louah posted.

Don't do it. Wouldn't be prudent.

:-)

SEP

Bad block reallocation option for logical volumes located in EMC disks needs to be disabled by "lvchange -r N" command.
It prevents OS from reallocating bad blocks.
Bad block reallocation should be done by EMC.
I think that this is required only by EMC disks.
We are using HP XP and Hitachi disks but they don't require the option to be disabled.
