Hi,

usually you would simply run vgextend for the device file of the alternate path e.g. being c#t#d#s2:
vgextend vg00 /dev/dsk/c#t#d#s2

This is for the default partitioning for LVM root disks and slice 2 being the HP-UX partition. Which should be the case if you install from DVD.

Then run vgdisplay -v vg00 and it will tell you "alternate path" for c#t#d#s2

You can also check lvlnboot -v.

Regards,
Bernhard

Hello we have

RX5670 Server connected thro EMC clarion CX600 SAN storage with dual FC card.(We have confirmed from EMC doc. that external boot of 11.23 supported on CX600 SAN box)

1.We wanted to install the OS on SAN LUN
2. But we would get multiple path thro both FC cards (due to dual Fc card and SP on Storage)

3. While install HPUX 11.23 it is taken only one path.

How to add the additional paths to the system I mean additional path to VG00?.
Since we wanted to check by booting thro additional paths too for achiving FC Card fail-over.

Usual way to add the path is to just vgextend the volume group to include the new path. The system knows it's the same LUN.

I personally would feel a bit twitchy about booting off the SAN myself but I know some people do.

If you don't have the device paths but you can see them as "CLAIMED" with "ioscan" just do "insf -e -C disk" or if you're feeling nervous "insf -e -H <HARDWARE path="">"</HARDWARE>

Hi,

as Mark said you just need to do insf -e to create any missing device files.

If you reboot, this will also do an insf -e. Then you *should* see all your path to your SAN boot disk with all the different device files, e.g /dev/dsk/c4t0d1s2 and /dev/dsk/c6t0d1s2.

All other disks or LUNs should just have the /dev/dsk/c4t0d2 and c6t0d2 device files (without the "slice" addition).

Regards
Bernhard
