topic Need help upgrading to JFS Version 3.1 Version 3 in Operating System - HP-UX

I have an HPUX 11.0 system with JFS 3.1 version 2. There is a 128 GB filesystem limit with this version.

JFS 3.1 version 3 seems to allow larger filesystems (I'll need to create 350 GB filesystems).

How do I get version 3? What's involved with the installation (patches, etc)?

Is a codeword required or will it recognize that I already have a previous version.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi:

You can download the standard JFS 3.3 for 11.0 for free from here:

http://www.software.hp.com/HA_products_list.html

If you want the online version, you need to order (and pay) for product B3929CA.

To migate JFS (VxFS) version disk layouts, you use the 'vxupgrade' command. See its man pages for more information.

A good overall guide to VxFS filesystem management is the "HP JFS 3.3 and HP OnLineJFS 3.3 VERITAS File System 3.3 System Administrator's Guide for HP-UX 11.00 and HP-UX 11i":

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B3929-90011/B3929-90011.html

Regards!

...JRF...

Thanks for your reply.

However, I've read through some of the online
info concerning installing version 3.3 and
it looks like there's lots of room for error -
BTW, I'm a junior at HPUX administration.

Is it possible to simply install a patch to version 3.1 (which is already installed) to
bring it up to version 3? I think this would be the easier route.

Any help is appreciated.

JFS 3.1 requires a code word while 3.3 requires a license. The 3.3 license keys off of the system id configured into your system board via SSCONFIG, and is installed by an HP CE. The system id is display with uname -a.

HP licensing provides you with your 3.3 license after you provide them with your system id.

You license is enable via:

/sbin/fs/vxfs3.3/vxenablef -a

Note: This command appears in /etc/inittab to survive reboot, so check /etc/inittab and backup after installation.

Check for a valid license with:

/sbin/vxlicense -P

JFS 3.3 comes on the cdroms that HP sends out but you can't enable it without the above.
