      <description>Single user mode at the console should do.  You may still have to un-mount the /var volume first before extending the fs, but that is all.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;~Philip</description>

      <description>If time is a factor, I type in init s &lt;BR /&gt;make the change and then init 3 to return. Then a reboot durring backup to make sure things are in proper order.  Just be aware that this method doesn't kill all processes in the way that a reboot does.  So I do this on delevopement systems rather than production.</description>
