Hi,

I have a Tape Array 5300 which contains Storage Works Ultrium 448 tape drive. This is connected to an HP-UX Server.

The Ultrium tape drive flashes amber on the Tape LED. And the tape cartridge spits out in less than a minute.

I cleaned the tape using cleaning cartridge, changed the data cartridge, with no luck.

Please explain how to troubleshoot in HP-UX to confirm whether tape drive really has to be replaced.
Recommended way is to use LTT and pull a support ticket:

http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools.

Did you try another tape yet?

We have the same unit in my customer.
my recommendations:

Try another new tape
Try reboot server if you can afford it
Nothing happens ,raise a support ticket to HP.
