topic Can HP-UX be a XEN or KVM Guest under Linux on IA64? in Operating System - HP-UX

RHEL 5.0 to 5.3 supposedly sports virtualization in the IA64/Integrity server. I wonder if it will support HP-UX 11.23/11.31 as a virualized OS instance?

Even if it did, I would not want to use this. I don't see a big market for people running HP-UX (or OpenVMS, for that matter) on something else than HPVM, unless HP starts supporting alternative hypervisors which I doubt could happen unless there's a huge customer demand.

On the other hand, having a choice to use alternatives to virtualize Linux or Windows on ia64 could be very beneficial to the Integrity platform at a whole. Don't get me wrong, HPVM is not a bad product. But it's not trivial to install and secure for someone who's not already familiar with HP-UX.

Olivier.

I can't comment on whether it could be made to work or not (my guess is not - as HP-UX interacts pretty directly with the system firmware...), but I can say its not supported by HP. I'm aware of no plans to offer support for this either.

HTH

Duncan

Hi

Hp-ux will run red hat 4 via virtualization. Red Hat will not run hp-ux via xen.
