SCHEDLOCK Error

Hi friends,

In my HP D Class Server running HP-UX 10.20 i am facing a funny prob.

My /var/spool/lp has got a file called "SCHEDLOCK".

I was told that , lpscheduler won't run when this file exists. But in my system it is running. I hv two Jet Direct Printers and one Remote Printer which is connected to another HP E-Class machine.

Both the machines are having the "SCHEDLOCK" file. But printing is going on without any probs

The HP D-Class Server is Part of M/C Service Guard.

Any feedbacks ???

The SCHEDLOCK file is created by the lpsched program in order to prevent a second copy of lpsched from running. It is removed when you run lpshut.

I think that you are confusing the situation when lpsched does not shut down normally and the SCHEDLOCK file remains preventing you from restarting lpsched until you have removed it.

It is normal (and desirable) for SCHEDLOCK to exist whilst lpsched is running.

when a lpscheduler starts, it will create the SCHEDLOCK file. If the file is already present, it assumes that the scheduler is already running and will abort and hence prevent two scheduler processes running on the same system. If the SCHEDLOCK file is present on your system and lpscheduler is running means it is normal. when you stop scheduler you check for this file and it won't be appearing

An email address for me is on my profile (click on the name) but I don't believe that HP would consider your doubts to be a waste.

'Going private' would deprive other users who may have similar doubts from seeing the answers and also reduces your chance of getting a sensible answer (considerably in my case ;-) ). Stick to the forums.
