Hi John,

If a node has 2 LAN cards, one is configured with data IP and and the next one is with Heartbeat IP. And both ip ranges are in same subnet. Would SG cluster allow this?

you cannot have configured (with IP addresses set on them) cards in the same subnet on HP-UX, it is unsupoorted.
The only way to do that is use APA.

Serviceguard does not support having two separate lan cards configured within the cluster on the same subnet.

HP-UX does (sorry Melvyn).

No. They need to be different subnets if they are on different lan cards.

Hi Vel-UX,

If you configure two lan cards on the same subnet you will have problems. This is a part of troubleshooting the network even on a local system as well as when you are working with service guard. Yes, you can configure it but you will have innumerous problems and it doesn't serve the purpose. If you configure two lan cards on the same subnet , both lan cards will not be able to function simultaneously but will function separately. That is why the above rule is also a checklist while troubleshooting network problems. Hope you still join this thread!!

Regards
Ismail Azad

If a node has 2 LAN cards, one is configured with data IP and and the next one is with Heartbeat IP. And both ip ranges are in same subnet. Would SG cluster allow this?

In service guard it is not supported. That is mentioned in service guard management guide.

==> This is a UX limitation ( I think for other OS also).
Still, it can be configured now. But not intended for applcation loadbalancing. recommendatin is to use APA.

this can be used for system admin purpose/connectivity.
You may implement ip_strong_es_model ( multi home network)

Regards,
Sooraj
