Thanks for the information. We do not have Service guard & ASM with us. Is it possible to install RAC without the above given softwares. is there any other way to make slvm.If yes then can you provide us the document which explains how it can be done.
Again thanks for all the help. The information is helping us a lot because we are doing the rac installation for the 1st time.

If you are not using Serviceguard then probably the answers you seek are not to be found in this forum. Certainly it is possible to install Oracle RAC without Serviceguard but to do so you need to refer to Oracle documentation and ask questions to Oracle directly.
Most documents you will be pointed to here depend on Serviceguard to supply the underlying shared storage for data. If Serviceguard is not doing this via SLVM or CVM/CFS, then you need to do it another way as documented by Oracle in their manuals that discuss RAC installation.

You can install Oracle RAC without Serviceguard. There must be physical shared storage. The physical shared storage must be managed by a volume manager that understands shared storage and can present that shared storage up to the application layer without corrupting data.

Your option for a standalone RAC installation without Serviceguard is ASM over raw disks, however ASM does not support multipathing(I think this is true, I am not an Oracle expert) so if you use ASM over raw disk, you must use a product or operating system that provides the multipathing itself. Or run without it and risk losing access to the device if a path fails. This is really a question for Oracle experts, not a Serviceguard forum though.

thanks to all , problem solved.

sever name had 9 character which is ok with hp-ux but oracle rac was accepting only 8 characters and our server names were same except last digit , we believe when rac was accepting only first 8 characters it would find both servers with same name. we reduced the size and rac went through. no serviceguard or any other volume manager was needed. hpux and rac managed it.

thanks a lot all the support
