Hey yash,

Certain processes in veritas are manageable only with system multi node packages. The outstanding difference being mentioned by q3 about SG CFS.

On the CFS suite, comes as usual the requirement of communication between kernels as well as on the network side. Ofcourse graceful starting and shutdown of the CFS is also imperative.

These are some of the components of SG CFS q3 was mentioning. The communication part being accross what is termed as LLT and messaging for the "CVM subsystem" with Group Membership services/atomic broadcast. These components of CFS are always managed as system multi node packages.

Regards
Ismail Azad
Hi,
as the name suggests, multi-node package is a package that can run on multiple nodes at the same time. It's opposite to classic failover package, which can run only on one node at a time. It is widely used for multi-instance applications like Oracle RAC, NFS-export package, web servers... It doesn't have to run on every node in the cluster.

System-multi-node package needs to run on all nodes in the cluster, it can not be individually halted on selected nodes. It is supported only by applications provided by HP. For example SG CFS (Cluster file system) is configured as system-multi-node package in SG.

Do you mean to say over A-P ?

In A-A, both the nodes are utilized, where as in A-P, the second node becomes passive/dormant & will be used in case of failover.

advantage is higher availability for the applications. Also as the disks are activated on each node, the "failover" time for deactivating/activating disks in failover package does not take place in multi-node package.
