Speaking as the (proud) owner of a LaserJet
4MV, it's kind of old, isn't it? I think
its Ethernet interface is still 10MHz, for
example. And the toner cartridge box says
"00A". They don't get much lower than that.

Which (Postscript) Laser printer for Java CAD applications on HP-UX ?

In another thread "HP-UX sends Postscript print jobs to non-Postscript printer" ( http://forums13.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1349931 ) I learned that Postscript is the mainly used print format for modern applications such as Java ones, Firefox, etc, on HP-UX.

Now we're looking for a good HP Laser printer which works perfectly with our HP Integrity rx2660 Servers running HP-UX 11.31 .
Black/white is sufficient, but the printer should print millimeter (inch) accurate the CAD drawings coming from our Java 1.6.x applications on HP-UX, which apparantly are being sent in Postscript format to the printer.

I found the nice "Printer model help" wizzard on HP's website, which suggested as best printer for our jobs in small and mid sized companies :
1. HP LaserJet P2055dn (399 €)
2. HP LaserJet P3005 (459 €)
3. HP LaserJet P3005N (519 €)

As printer languages all three have got:
"HP Postscript Level 3 Emulation", "HP PCL 5c", "HP PCL 6", with automatic language switch.

Is HP's "Postscript Level 3 Emulation" fully Postscript compatible? Is Emulation some tricky thing or just a way to avoid Adobe Poscript original patent issues? Very few HP printers do have "just" "Postscript" without the Emulation word AFAIK.

P.S. I saw the forum "printers", but since my main question is "which printer for HP-UX / Integrity rx2660 Servers" I tought let's stick to this forum. In case the other forum is better suited, a kind moderator could please move the thread to there.

Hi,

this ia a nice site:
http://h30216.www3.hp.com/ASA/Controller;jsessionid=48BB4E531CB134EE26E05F1A5EBF8875?tagid=48BB4E531CB134EE26E05F1A5EBF8875$1$84$10251$en_US&state=1S1&_AD_195R22=170&r=-430972518&ADI_cmpHandler=CMP_SETTING&A13951=49810&ob=

You have to watch for UX-compatibility, network and ps, so for example:
HP LaserJet P2055dn Printer (CE459A)

HTH
Volkmar
Volkmar, thanks for your reply.

The "which printer fits your need" wizzard on HP's website (which I mentioned in the other thread) also suggests your mentioned "HP LaserJet P2055dn" printer.

It's got Poscript (emulation), UNIX as supported OS (I hope this includes HP-UX :-) , and so on.

This printer's data sheet sound very well, I hope it holds up in real practical life.
> (I hope this includes HP-UX :-)

I hope so, too :-)
Well, normally I ask a CAD engineering house for an offer, so we found LJ 4mv and LJ 5100tn.
You only have to check if the network connection is the same like a Jetdirect.
This is better for a good connection and communication between server and printer.

HTH
Volkmar
PostScript is owned by Adobe, but is an open published language specification, so anyone is able to create their own implementation.

"PostScript emulation" distinguishes other implementations (all of which are legal) from the Adobe licensed implementation.
