topic Re: Is there a use for an rp 5470 in Operating System - HP-UX

Even though there are quite a few number of HP used equipment resellers, rp5470(glorified name for old L-class machines in my opinion) is past its prime as far as the usefulness and power consumption levels go. The best use in my opinion is to set it up as a training server in a corner of the data center and let the junior hpux admins have a sandbox to crash-n-burn. Otherwise, the money you will get from a reseller most probably will not compensate the paperwork costs in a large enterprise environment. And as far as the donations go, I do not know any organizations using HPUX for their servers to be perfectly honest.

HTH

Could someone please let me know if there is a company or organization who would be interested in purchasing our rp5470. If not to purchase is there someone to whom we could donate it to? Thank you in advance.

Shalom,

I think Ebay is a better place to go with this.

There is a good used market for this class of server, in spite of the fact that they are quite heavy.

It is not a bad place to practice OS skills and scripting, may be worth keeping.

SEP

Thank you, I have emailed 8 different companies on the internet but thought perhaps someone on this forum had actual contact with a particular company.

Lisa,

I don't think we're supposed to "advertise" for vendors/resellers, so any specific referral would probably be edited by the moderators. However, if you were to email me (see my profile) . . . . . .

Pete

As Pete said, specifying certain companies by name may not bode well with this forum but here is a google search URL which will give you a plethora of resellers you can contact:

http://www.google.com/search?q=used+HP+equipment+resellers&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

few of these I have dealt with in the past, during dotcom boom, when my company at the time changing servers, more frequently than some people change their underwear. So, all of them are legitimate businesses.

HTH
