Hi,

My security team noted that the smbnull user has no home directory. Can I safely change the home directory to something else and put the shell to /usr/bin/false?\

Current settings appear to be default.
smbnull:*:101:101:DO NOT USE OR DELETE - needed by Samba:/home/smbnull:/sbin/sh

Forgot to add, when I mean safely I mean preserve Samba's functionality.

Shalom,

This is a do not touch user. IT can not log in, but is required for samba to function. The fact that it has no home directory makes it impossible to log in, using this user.

The /etc/passwd notation is clear and to the point. Do not delete, do not use. I recommend against changing it in any way.

SEP
