I upgraded to 11.23 on an rp5470. I need to connect a HP c6382A DLT4000 tape drive to it. What card do I need? The A4800A is no longer supported. Is the C6382A HVD or LVD? I have a Compaq DLT4000 hooked up right now with. I believe, is an a5149A card.

According to partsurfer.hp.com

http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&model=C6382A&HP_model=C6382A&modname=DLT+Tape+Drive+(C6382A)&template=main&plist_sval=Drive&plist_styp=subcat&dealer_id=&callingsite=&strsrch=&keysel=Drive&catsel=%3F

This is a "20/40GB DLT 4000 Narrow Differential SCSI-2 desktop drive". So this should be LVD, I believe.

hi linda,

ur r correct. C6382A is indeed a differential (VHD) device and it can't be connected to LVD adapters like A5150A/A5149A. You need to get any of the following and connect to LVD adapter:

C1579A Single-ended DLT4000
or
any single-ended LVD HP DLT7000 and DLT8000. These models allow you to write tape in DLT4000 format but you must override its reading capabilities by using a button in front of the tape drive.

Rgds

> This is a "20/40GB DLT 4000 Narrow
> Differential SCSI-2 desktop drive". So this
> should be LVD, I believe.

Uh, "Differential SCSI-2" would be HVD
(high-voltage differential). DLT 4000 drives
predate LVD. (DLT 4000 drives predate many
things. I'd probably be looking for a 7000
or 8000, too. Even _I_ don't use a 4000
any more.)

> any single-ended LVD HP DLT7000 and DLT8000.

If it's single-ended, it's not LVD
(low-voltage differential). What _is_ true
is that a single-ended drive can work with an
LVD adapter, but it'll cause the bus to
negotiate down to some slower SE
configuration. If you weren't expecting to
share that SCSI bus with Ultra-320 disk
drives (or some other fancy, new, LVD
devices), then this shouldn't cause a
problem. (And even then, the only likely
problem would be slower-than-Ultra-320
speeds.)
