oracle 10g /u01 full

hi
i have rp7420 hp-ux11i with oracle 10g installed the size of the /u01 is 11GB
my problem is the /u01 is full now, when i go to the directory inside /u01/app/oracle/admin/orcl/
i can see this folders:- adump,bdump,cdump,dpdump,pfile,udump
the size of "cdump" folder is 6GB
and i have another server but the size of "cdump" is 400MB
the cdump folder take the size of the /u01
and iside this folder there is a folders with name core_0000 i can't run the sqlplus because there is no free space

what i cane do to solve this problem?

Shalom,

Bring down the database and copy off some of those files to a better location.

The database server processes probably have open file handles to some of those files.

I would think the cdump folder is a good place to start.

If no one needs them you can delete the older files in the dump directories.

inside the cdump folder there is folders with name core_**** and inside this folders theres files with name core
can i delete this files and how i know if is necessary or not.
this files is not oracle backup files i mean *.dmp

If you have oracle DBA's ,please check with them.

If this is a "cdump" folder, i think you can remove the core files .

this is cdump folder and my problem is with the growth of this folder.

just keep the most recent cdump's. Maybe a week or a month. Anything older than that probably isn't useful anymore. You usually only need them when you create an SR with oracle.

I guess I should alos note tht if you are getting a lot of cdumps, you may have an issue with your instance.

To answer your second question:

With the database down, moving any of the dump files to relieve space issues is fine.

The database will come up afterward.

Longer term, you need a bigger file system for this database.

Have you checked database layout from the performance standpoint? Whole database on one file system, that isn't a high performance strategy.

what that mean ? i have file system /u02 for data base but i didnt see any noticeable growth in this file system.
what is my fault as you think?

I am not sure why this thread isn't closed. You can delete the dump file if no one needs them. They are for troubleshooting purposes. You don't need to shutdown the instance to do this. Just use the find command to remove files older than 30 days old and remove them. Example.

cd to_cdump_dir

find . - mtime +30 -exec -name 'core*' -exec rm -fr {} \+

There is nothing else to it. This is a normal dba function. You can also remove old .trc files from bdump and udump.

The above post is correct. You can remove the dump files. What you need to do is find out why the database is creating such large/so many dump files.
