media is not recognized as recordable DVD

I have a cdrw in the drive and I get the following error.

Any ideas would be great.

Media probably is not recordable to the hardware.

HP-UX servers I have worked with recently only work with RW+ media. The other type just doesn't work.

hi,

first thing to check is the media you are using?

disk 0 0/0/2/0.0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE TEAC DW-224E

this drive is just a cdrw/dvdrom drive not a dvdrw!

are you using cd's or dvd's? in the drive to write to?
id dvdr's then it wont work

Now it does have data on it.

If I need to wipe it before I write to it how would I wipe it?

Maybe with a cloth? :-)

I believe that you need a DVD as the error says. Beyond that, a CD isn't going to hold anywhere near what a DVD will hold.

Too, why would you re-use cheap media for something as critical as an Ignite image!?

I am just making a bootable image that will take me to a shell on the cd that I can run commands from.

This is to wipe VG00 to security standards.

Right now the image is 283 MB. And it does what I need it to do.

But I had to download the ISO to my laptop to burn it and make a trip to where the sever is.

I still need to tweak it some and figured if I could write to it from the UX server it's self it would save me some time.

do you have cdrecord s/w installed or the newer dvd+rw tools installed.

you can probably do it with these.

cdrecord is available on teh apps cd's and dvd+rw tyools maybe or can be downloaded from here
