If you don't have anything but the OS running, then the out-of-the-box kernel parameters should be fine.

The only thing you might change is dbc_max_pct to something like 5, but if nothing is running there isn't much point in changing that either.

Hi guys,
i need of 11.23 kernel parameter (superdome itanium). With 4 cpu and 32Gb Ram.
I need the best parameter for the O.S.(mission Critical)without application.
Many point at any good response...
Hi:

This would depend on the nature of your workload. The server will certainly run (perhaps not optimally, though) without any tuning.

Regards!

...JRF...

Shalom,

This varies depending on how you use the server.

The standard kctune -l ouptut will show you the current parameters.

General advice:
Take out kernel formulas they are not based on real world scenarios.

I agree that dbc_max_pct should be dropped down to a lower figure. Its a waste of memory unless there is some specific benefit in having the buffer pool at 50%

SEP
