Yep, the process is as ganesan has described, I would just add a few precautions.take a full backup of your database, and also important make a backup of the OCR and the voting disks just in case!.

I have two identical rp7420 servers and OS is HP-UX 11iv1 (with MC service guard) with Oracle CRS cluster. I’m using raw file system as cluster file system. And the storage is EMC clariion CX340.

Now, we are going to migrate the CX340 to DMX-4. Please suggest me what kind of activity or action plan needed after migration of storage, means cluster concern, LUN recognition, etc.

Feel free to ask me questions for more clarification.

Hy ahsan,

I did it some time ago on an oracle with CRS using raw device lvols, on 11.23 servers

We migrated from an EVA to a ds8300, and we did it the traditional way, using mirrors and then detaching the old storage.

We had to stop the cluster to change the cluster lock disk, but not much else

Hi Ahsan,

We have done storage migration but not with Oracle CRS cluster. Normally storage migration comprise these steps.

1.Assign LUN's from new storage to both nodes.

2. Add the new luns to respective volume groups by vgextend.

3.Use mirror or pvmove to copy the data from old storage luns to new luns. Prefer to go far mirror. pvmove is always little risky

4. Remove the mirror copy from old storage luns

5. vgreduce the old storage luns from respective volume groups

6. Remove the device files and unpresent from the old storage.

7.take the map file and import on other nodes

8. reinitialise the cluster lock disk.

Hope this helps

Hello,

for host-based migration and raw logical volumes the process would be as described above. Another option would be an array-based copy. If I remember correctly, EMC had a tool called SAN Copy or similar, which was able to migrate LUNs in 1:1 ratio between their arrays. The advantage was considerable speed and no host overhead.

J.
