Could not query /dev/dsk/c5t3d7

I have a setup as follows.
Volume group-vg09
Logical volumes-lvol1, lvol2
After a reboot I am not able to query lvol1.

lssf for lvol2-lssf /dev/dsk/c5t5d3 is OK,
But lssf /dev/dsk/c5t3d7 gives ??? at hardware address.

I am also not able to do mksf as I do not get /dev/dsk/c5t3d7 in ioscan -fnCdisk.

lvdisplay gives error that could not query /dev/dsk/c5t3d7

I had some data on that. How do I recover? I need that data desperately.

Hi,

It looks like the disk is broken, since you dont see it in the ioscan. If you're logical volumes are not mirrored you need to restore the data from a backup.

I would assume a hardware problem. Check the cable connections and the scsi id plugs are correct.

During boot visually verify if the active light comes on.

Hi,

If you cannot query the disk and if the disk is not seen in ioscan, it is bad. Looks like you have to replace the disk and restore the data from backup.

Hi

Sounds like some thing is wrong with ur HDD. It may not gone fully wrong, It can be because of a loose connection or a termination problem.

Please check it up with the help of a H/W engineer.

sounds like a loose connection..
can you post up the ioscan -fnk just to see what the device was/is, and for example if other devices on the bus are still up...

What is the O/P of diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c5t5d3 or pvdisplay /dev/dsk/c5t5d3 , I suspect the disk is bad , also if you do a dd if=/dev/rdsk/c5t5d3 of=/dev/null bs=1024 ,what is the o./p you get , if you see a I/O error the i would suspect teh disk to be defective.

Since it is not showing in ioscan it could be hardware problem. Can you try "vgdisplay -v /dev/vg09" - to make sure which disks were configured in vg09?

Hi,

Reboot the server once and then try ioscan

Also try

# insf -c disk -e

to create a device file again and then try.

Could be a problem with disk....any other errors in syslog.log regarding this disk.

Hi

You appear to have an awfull lot of apparently small disks on the same instance (I count 48 does this hit any limits ?) had you added anything to the system prior to the reboot ?

It might be worth posting up what hardware setup you have for these disks.

But dd did not work on /dev/dsk/c5t3d7, says
can't open /dev/dsk/c5t3d7

There is no problem with the number of devices, (fcms)

There is a real problem with just that disk.

You should check:
syslog and
amdsp -i
amdsp -a
for evidence of disk failure/ disk downage at the array level. (not sure if these command are right for the VA - never worked with it, but have been told they are the same syntax as the FC60 and 12H)

Before messing around too much more, open a support call and dd if the disk to a safe place, just in case theres recoverable data there (dd to an ioscan identified disk)
