Install OnlineDiag from the SupportCD and then activate the EMS monitors (/etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig) and now any alerts which the GSP would show the alert light for (eg. power problem) also get emailed to root via the above daemons.
I routinely get emails from my L-class as we havent got both power cords plugged in yet, as well as the alert light flashing.
You can check the state of the LEDs on L and N series machines via the GSP interface using the VFP command.

I have the mail for root set up to go to me in the /etc/aliases file. If an Event Monitor goes off it shows up in my e-mail with the warning information in full.
Add root:mmitchell@blah.com
then type in at the command line
/usr/bin/newalises to activate the change.
Remember that BLAH.com has to have an ip entry in your Host file to resolve the address to the IP of your mail server.
Messages will go to the address rather than sit out in /var/mail/root.

Keith,

GSP firmware 1.09 introduced a paging functionality. You can configure your system to page you for certain alerts
