Hi

Does anyone have information on what will be the impact on a server if Iam running EMS (OS 11.x)like cpu utilization, memory utilization and load on the server. If there is not much impact is there a suggestion on how frequently this can run on the server.(example like every hour)

Thanks in advance

Gopinath

Hi

The default settings have very little impact on server performance and are more than worth the extra load placed on the server.

I would suggest you install at default level and monitor.

HTH

Paula

Hello ,

From the knowledge base:

No exact performance data is available for the EMS hardware monitors.
Performance impact depends on your system, and how much and what type of
hardware is attached to it.

If you are concerned about EMS impacting system performance, you can stagger
the poll interval for the different monitors running on your system.

The poll intervals for each monitor are defined in:
/var/stm/config/tools/monitor/monitor_name.cfg.

The default value of 60 seconds as defined in the file:
/var/stm/config/tools/monitor/Global.cfg
can be overwritten by uncommenting and changing the value in the monitor
specific configuration files.

If you stagger this value for the different monitors, they will not poll
at the same time, and such have a lesser impact on performance.

-USA..
Hi,

EMS is not going to have much impact on your system. EMS is a continous process and you don't run this every hour or so. Once you install EMS, the process gets started and it keeps monitoring your system for any failure of harwares being monitored.

http://www.software.hp.com/products/EMS/index.html

Hope this helps.

Regds
Hi,

I dont think that it will have a much performance impact on the system. On the other hand you will be alerted well in advance for the problems which are going to occur so that you can take preventive measurements.

Go ahead !!

Piyush
