Unwanted messages before login prompt.

Hi,

In my HP UNIX server every user getting the following messages after copy right message.

COLUMNS=158;
LINES=47;
export COLUMNS LINES;

Can any one guid me to fix this issue.

Hi Sujith:

Look for a 'resize' command in your '/etc/profile'. This command only applies to 'xterm' terminals and therefore could be conditionally issued if really necessary.

Right. Or dtterm or hpterm.
Typically this would be as: eval `resize`
Which also shouldn't print.

I have found the entry /usr/bin/X11/resize in /etc/profile file.Shall I comment out this command ? Is this activity makes any other issues?

What does it look like exactly?
It should look something like this:
if tty; then # only for terminals
eval `/usr/bin/X11/resize`
fi

Here is the line i got from the script.

# Resize terminal
/usr/bin/X11/resize

do i need to comment this line..?

Ack! This is completely useless without eval.
The standard HP-UX profile doesn't contain that, so decades ago I added it to my .profile.

So you can either comment it out or delete it. Or add what I suggested. Or ask your users to add mine to their .profiles.
