Problem sending email

Hi,

I am having issue sending email from HP UX 11i server after I replaced our Ms Exch server.

I did chnage the IP on /etc/hosts and on the DNS server but I get connection refused by mail.domain.com.

But if I turn on SMTP on the old exch server sendmail works fine.

Please help.

Looks like your new Ms Exch server does not like your HP UX servers.

If you check the SMTP RFC you can find the specifications for the email dialog. The protocol is quite simple.

Telnet to the new Ms Exch server from your HP UX server and walk through the dialog. It should give you a better idea why you are refused. Once you get it working from telnet, sendmail should work.

Alternatively, sniff the traffic between your server and port 25 on the MX Exchange server. You may be able to see the problem in the message exchange.

Did you repoint the HP-UX server to the new exchange server? If not, you need to do that. If yes, then you need to check the exchange server settings for SMTP relaying as Bill suggested.
