vi not working

hey frns,

i am trying to update my .profile but when i open my .profile with vi i just get this message "I don't know what kind of terminal you are on - all I have is 'hpterm'"

plz help me out to resolve this

What sort of terminal software are you using? What sort of terminal is it emulating?

What do you get from:

echo $TERM

Bonjour,

I guess that your environment variable "TERM" is not set, or not exported.

What is the result of "echo $TERM" ?

TERM was not set properly. i changed it and working fine
