library cache lock in database.

I am facing a problem of library cache lock in database. Whenever I am trying to gather statistics on tables in Oracle 10.2.0.1 database. The session hangs and finally I have to kill the session.

Have a look at metalink note 444561.1 - LIBRARY CACHE LOCK, PIN AND LOAD LOCK.

After object invalidation, Oracle tries to recompile the object at the time of the first access to it. It may be a problem in case when other sessions have pinned the object to the library cache. It is obvious that
it is more likely to occur with more active users and with more complex dependencies (eg. many cross-dependent packages or package bodies). In some cases waiting for object recompilation may even take hours blocking all the sessions trying to access it.

You may have to review your "shared pool size", "cursor_sharing" and reduce invalidations by running statistics gathering jobs at off-peak periods.
