What is the function of lock disk in Serviceguard ?

Hi Shiv:

A "lock disk" in a Serviceguard environment is an LVM disk that acts as an arbitrator for cluster formation.

That is, a node that can obtain the lock disk has the right to (re)form a cluster. Other nodes that find the lock disk already in use, TOC (Transfer-of-Control = reboot) thereby releasing their packages to be acquired under the control of the node owning the lock disk. This single point of ownership attempts to guarantee that one and only one cluster of nodes forms.

And nowadays the (recommended) alternative to the lock disk is a quorum server. A little PC running the qs software works well and the qs software is free.
