I am currently running ServiceGuard in my production environment and in doing so, I am not able to test updates. I now have some old D class servers that I am setting up for a test environment.

I am wanting to install ServiceGuard onto these test servers for testing purposes. I would like to find out if HP has any policy towards installing production bought software onto test servers?

Do you by chance know?

There is in writing and reality.

In writing, you need licenses.

In reality so long as you're not doing production work, you are on strong moral ground.

Many companies have a policy that they don't buy licenses for servers that are only systems test in nature.

Where I used to work the policy was licenses for production.

Licenses for the boxes that development use to make code.

No licenses for the systems test box that I just used for testing configurations.

SEP

David -- The only issue is that you will need to get software licenses to install it on the machines.

Also, be careful to name the test cluster to something else so that you don't run into conflicts with your production.

Best regards,

Oz
Do you have the Mission Critical OE for that server? if so it comes with SG.
You SHOULD have a legal license for any server that is going to use SG, but if it is for test purposes, HP normally accept that.
You may wish to get a formal ok from your HP Sales Office
