Just cos a device file exists, doesn't mean it points to a valid device. Check using:

lssf /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTb

and check what device files *are* assocaited with the tape device by running:

ioscan -funCtape

HTH

Duncan

After connecting a DDS4 dat drive on a J2240 server running HP-UX 10.20, it was impossible to use this dat drive with SAM: Sam internal error.
So I decided to install the path PHCO 22268, the error message disappears but the problem is still remaining. I can use the dat drive to restore information, but if I use it to save information, I get the error message: /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTb is not a valid path. This device is well existing.

What's the solution ?
