Hello friends.
I've posted a similar question last week and got some feedback. However, even though I followed all steps, still cannot startup Tomcat.

The version of Java is:
HP-UX Java C.01.18.05 01/25/2001

The version of Tomcat is 4.0

Upon executing startup.sh I get error:
Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread.

I've setup PATH variable to point to $JAVA_HOME/bin and .
CLASSPATH is pointing to $JAVA_HOME/lib/classes.zip. Also, as indicated on hp site I've setup SHLIB_PATh to point to ${JAVA_HOME}/lib/PA_RISC/green_threads and ${JAVA_HOME}/lib/PA_RISC/native_threads).

Is there a special sequence of commands to start tomcat or the vesion of java is old?

Please help, really stuck with this problem.

Hi,

What version of Java are you using? (ie, SDK 1.3.1_01). To find this, type "java -version" and you should receive a message like:

java version "JavaVM-1.3.0.01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build jinteg:02/14/01-23:51)
HotSpot VM (build 1.0.1fcs jinteg:02/15/01-02:43 PA2.0, mixed mode)

Java2 does not have classes.zip in the lib directory, instead, it has dt.jar and tools.jar in the $JAVA_HOME/lib directory. Have a look and add these jar files instead (if you're using Java2).

btw, Tomcat 4.0 needs JDK version 1.2 or better.

Hope this helps!
Regards,
Leigh

Hi.
This what I get when i run
java -version

HP-UX Java C.01.18.05 01/25/2001

It came preinstalled on the server. I've downloaded the latest jsdk 1.4 depot file, but the swinstall is aborted because the file is corrupt. They give a checksum on the website - how can I correctly verify it?
If i do ls -l filename it shows me a part of filesize, not whole checksum.
