The Quorum Server is used a method of supplying the cluster lock mechanism without using a shared disc. You install the QS software on another host that is NOT part of the cluster.#
see:
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/ha/#Quorum%20Server
Hi,

Quorum server plays the role of lock disk. I heard that lock disk will eventually be replaced by Quorum server. Quorum services will come into picture where there is a 'tie' due to communication failures between the servers. If you don't have dedicated heartbeats, I suggest you go with the traditional lock disk configuration.

-Sri

one thing to note is that the QS server wiull be able to serve 100 nodes, or 50 clusters, whichever limit is reached first.
Also, if you were to increase the cluster size to above 4 nodes, you would HAVE to remove the cluster lock disc, whereas you can have the quorum server for clsuters that have up to the full 16 node configuration.
