Hi! list,
This morning, I noticed all the cron jobs failed, when I checked in the cron log I found this message.
! bad user (pvcsgrp) or setgid failed (pvcsgrp) Wed Jun 26 07:05:00 2002
Anyone know what could be the problem.

Either the user entry in the password file is wrong (user pvcsgrp) or the entry in the group file for group pvcsgrp is missing or invalid. Check both.

Hi,

You should also check whether this user has an entry in /etc/shadow. If security has been enhanced on your system this file could be used.

Use sam User Administration to check it for you..

Run the following commands as root to check the integrity of /etc/passwd and /etc/group respectively.

# /usr/sbin/pwck
# /usr/sbin/grpck

If no error is reported then check your crontab syntax. Did you update it yesterday?

Hi,
You might also want to check the permissions on both /etc/passwd and /etc/group to make sure they're world readable, if you haven't done so already.

Bad User ? - Send to bed without tea or treats and keep off of furniture !!!

also check /var/adm/syslog/cron log, but suspect that user pvcsgrp may be inactive. activate login or create new password.

Also beware of sysadms coming back from pub and checking forums in slightly inehbira inheibrate ,, inhe . wosre worse for wear .
