Hi all
Can I assign/unassign volume groups from the cluster if the cluster is down, or does the cluster have to be up in order to do this?

The cluster can be up or down, doesn't matter.

Yes you can - either up or down....

We do backups with the cluster up - but vgchange -c n vg's on the cluster boxes, and vgchange - a y on on the backup server and mount file systems locally on the backup server.

And the other important point is that you only need to doi the vgchange -c on only one host in the cluster. Because the data is carried onm the VG disks themselves (as opposed to externally on the hosts), a change anywhere does it for all.

Hi,

And don't forget the vgchange -c y before you attempt to have the pkg reactivate the VG. If you forget, the activation will fail.
