In obtaining the "Security Patch Check" software, I note there are 2 distinct versions of Perl mentioned as prerequisites:
HP-UX 11.00 PA-RISC version 5.8.0 is noted as being required for https and
HP-UX 11.00 PA-RISC version 5.6.1 is noted as being necessary for security_patch_check. Can somebody tell me whether loading 5.8.0 satisfies the requirement for "5.6.1 or above"?

Hi Don,

Yes, loading Perl 5.8.0 should resolve both requirements.

Typically you'll see confusing messages like these when different labs are involved with developing the various components of a bundled product like the Security Patch Check. While one lab develops one component of the bundle, they certify on one version of Perl. Meanwhile a different lab develops the other component using a different version of Perl. Both labs state which version of Perl they used during development and testing. Really what they're saying is "this is the version we used when we wrote and tested the tool, so you need to be at least on this version to use the tool". The assumption is that a later version of Perl would still work, but they've only tested using the version they listed.

Hope this helps,

Dave

Thanks Dave. The other part that was confusing was (and I REALLY never understood what this is about) the fact the versions are: D.5.8.0 and B.5.6.1.
