Does AWK come with the standard HP-UX installation, or is this 'sold seperately' software?

Awk is part of the standard distribution, located in /usr/bin/awk.

'awk' is a standard unix utility. As such it does come with the OS.

The usual version to use is /usr/bin/awk.

There is also a statically linked version at /sbin/awk.

AWK comes as standard, not just with HP-UX, but with any unix.

Is shipped with HP-UX. Where is placed? use this command:
#whence awk
/usr/bin/awk (may vary)

Awk's version and/or revision:
#what /usr/bin/awk

Manual pages about:
#man awk

Free GNU awk software certified by HP:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/

Then search "awk"

awk is shipped with OS.

nowadays perl is also shipped with all unix
