I am trying to help facilitate obtaining the correct mix of Micro Focus Object Cobol licenses for a family of HP servers which we are upgrading from HP/UX 10.20 to HP/UX 11.00.
We already have a temporary license for our test/development system recently upgraded to HP/UX 11.00 and the Developer's version seems to be working fine and the complied code functioning properly.

I have a few questions:

1) Does the license manager need to be running in order for programs already compiled to function?
2) Can the compiled object code be run on another system with a run time license after being compiled and tested on a test system under the Developer's version?

Bottom line ...any reason to have more than one copy of a Developer's version license if the other systems running the complied code have Run time licenses?

1) No, once compiled no license server is required.

2) Yes.

In fact, you could have simply moved your 10.20 versions from /usr/local/flexlm to 11.x and that would have worked on the same machine.
Alas, we had the verion of Cobol named "Business Cobol" that came bundled with HP/UX 10.20 (no /usr/local/flexlm even on the 10.20 systems) so I gather we will still have to pursue getting the licenses
BUT
thanks for the confirmation of my thinking that we can just move compiled code from the Developer's Version on the test system to the Production system(s) running the Run Time version.
That makes a big $$$ difference. Compounding the issue is the attendant Oracle database tied in with Cobol on these systems.
Any other thoughts/suggestions will be greatly welcomed!

We have one server running as the FLEXLM license master. Two other servers are occasionally used to compile, and are licensed with the master. The code runs perfectly on any other server with COB RT.

Just be careful regarding the version of compiler versus the RT version: I seem to think that there are back- and forwards-compatibility issues with MF COBOL.
