Hi

You may need to increase the PE size while creating VG. By default PE size is 4MB.

# vgcreate -s <4/8/16/32/64> <VGNAME> <PV>

Thanks & Regards

Ramesh</PV></VGNAME>

How can i fix this problem?
# vgcreate vgu23 /dev/dsk/c14t3d1
Increased the number of physical extents per physical volume to 51199.
vgcreate: Volume group "/dev/vgu23" could not be created:
VGRA for the disk is too big for the specified parameters. Increase the
extent size or decrease max_PVs/max_LVs and try again.

If you don't specify the values for max_PV and/or max_LV the system will use the default.

You can see, these defaults are too large.

Consider to reduce at least one of them or increase the PE size.

see

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60105/vgcreate.1M.html

If you tell us the output of

diskinfo -v /dev/rdsk/c14t3d1

this will give us more info about the disk size - easier to suggest something.

I'm not sure about how much do you already know about LVM, but there are some basics.
If know about them you will understand the problem.

See also

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90950/ch06s01.html#bficdcif

The first physical extends (PE) will hold VG specific data - no user data.
This includes information about the extend and LVOL layout etc. LVM will calculate and reserve space for future added disks too.
This special area (VGRA) is limited to 1 PE.

If the disk is large and the maximum of disks for this VG is large too, 1 PE is just too small to hold all information.

This is the reason of the error you get.

If you specify now a larger size of the PE's, you (your system) will get more space to save this information.

So you should specify the "new" PE size in your command:

# vgcreate -s 8 vgu23 /dev/dsk/c14t3d1
