My programers have developed an application that memory mapps files as "Private". Several processes use these memory mapped file. I told them it makes more sense to map them as "shared" momory regions and we will not need to put memory under so much pressure. Does anoyone know where I can find some good whitpapers/documents/URLs explaining using/developing shared memory applications on HP-UX? Is anyone using the shared memory facilities on HP-UX 10.20? How is it working? Any help would be appreciated.

Tony

HP has several good documents on shared memory. One of them is document #:RCMEMKBAN00000027 Understanding Shared Memory on PA-RISC Systems at:
http://us-support2.external.hp.com/cki/bin/doc.pl/

Other good documents can be found by searching on "shared memory"

Brian
<*(((>< er

Cheryl, I have read that document on shared memory and it is excellent. I now understand how the Memory Management System is going to work with VM and try its best to maintain a free list before vhand takes over and starts doing its thing. Brian, your article is excellent too. It is very good however and I think the programmers will want some more information to convince them that this is the right thing to do and not impossible to implement. They are arguing that HPs implementation is NOT AS GOOD as SUN's implementation of shared memory facilities. Are there any success stories out there?
