The SysV spooling system requires a complete stop of all printing to add, delete or modify a printer.

If your printer is an HP printer with an HP JetDirect LAN card, you can print without using the spooler by running the hpnpf command. For non-HP printers, check your documentation. Some printers all ftp as a printing method which would bypass the spooler.

Hi,

I want to add a network printer on my rp7400 running HPUX 11.00 server.

Is any way to add network printer without stopping the spooler?

i believe that adding *any* printer requires the spooler be stopped / restarted in order to see the "new" printer queues

Not that I am aware of. addqueue and lpadmin will need the scheduler stopped in order to add a printer. You might just need to add it when you have no jobs, or just suck it up and add it.
